writing

t wasn't until my high school journalism teacher told me to pursue writing that I even gave it serious consideration. It just goes to show you what one nice comment can do for a person.

After earning my BA in magazine feature writing, I was hired as the Media/PR Coordinator for a state senate race in Indiana. I wrote press releases, media plans, speeches, ad copy, fundraising appeals, and radio ads. I'm happy to say we won by over 10 points.

A few years later I took a job as a copywriter with a web marketing agency in Chicago. I wrote marketing copy for thousands of companies, with particular attention paid to SEO strategies. Sadly, the company was purchased and relocated to California.

It was time to move to Boston and pursue my master's in gastronomy, allowing me to combine my experiences in writing and politics with my love of food and food policy.

Throughout my career I have taken on a number of freelance clients, writing marketing copy for businesses of every size throughout the Chicago-land area. I have helped edit a book, participated in food and recipe writing seminars, contributed to national magazines, and wrote a section on political participation for a college textbook. My blog receives thousands of visitors and was featured in Edible Boston magazine as the "Blog For David Foster Wallace Fans."

I have experience with:

  • press releases
  • recipe writing
  • speeches
  • fundraising appeals
  • blogging
  • articles
  • media plans
  • advertising copy

  • web marketing copy
  • search engine optimization (SEO)
